Key Scripture: Mark 6:1–13 or Matthew 1:10-14, and 1 Peter 3:9

Theme: How Christians should respond to criticism, judgment, and rejection.

This children’s sermon uses the modern idea of “shaking it off” to connect with Jesus’ teaching about handling rejection. Even someone as famous as Taylor Swift deals with critics, and in a similar way, Jesus faced rejection in His own hometown. Instead of letting negativity stop Him, Jesus continued His mission and taught His disciples to do the same.

In Mark 6, the people who watched Jesus grow up dismissed Him, questioned His authority, and doubted His miracles. Jesus used this experience to prepare His followers. Then He sent out the 12, telling them that some people would listen… and some wouldn’t. When their message wasn’t welcomed, He instructed them to “shake the dust off your feet” and move on.

This message reminds children (and adults!) that rejection is a part of life. But God sees our value even when others don’t. When we know we are loved, chosen, and approved by God, we don’t have to let criticism or unkind words define us. Instead, we can “shake it off” and continue doing what God has called us to do.

Key Takeaway: You can’t control what others think about you, but you can control your reaction. When rejection comes, don’t quit—shake it off, stay focused on God, and keep doing what is right.
