Key Scripture: 1 Kings 3:1–15; Proverbs 3
Theme: Godly Wisdom vs. Human Knowledge
This children’s sermon uses a fun and familiar object—M&M candies—to teach the important difference between knowledge and wisdom. Kids may know many facts about M&Ms: the colors, the slogan, the flavors…but wisdom helps them know what to do with that knowledge, such as making healthy choices instead of eating candy all day!
The message turns to Scripture, where we meet King Solomon, who was given the chance to ask God for anything. Instead of riches or power, Solomon chose wisdom, knowing he needed God’s help to lead with honesty and fairness. His wise sayings in the book of Proverbs remind us that wisdom is more valuable than anything money can buy.
Children learn that they make thousands of decisions every day—and the best way to make good choices is by seeking God’s wisdom through Scripture, prayer, and listening to trusted adults. Knowledge fills the mind, but wisdom guides the heart and shapes the way we live.
Key Takeaway: Knowledge helps us learn facts, but wisdom—God’s wisdom—helps us use those facts to make good choices.
